Spring

My irises survived the snow, my perriwinkle is flowering, and my bleeding hearts are up, and I have one heck of a lot of gardening work to do. (I had a bad back most of last summer, you see.)  Off to buy mulch….

  1. One of my irises has succumbed to the dreaded root-rot, but the others seem fine. I’ve lost at least one rose – Golden Showers – it was SUPPOSED to be reasonably hardy, so I didn’t cover it up. Maybe that spot near the fence is too exposed to the wind, though, and it was planted in the fall, so perhaps it didn’t have enough time to get rooted. The roses did better the nearer they were to the house, even the David Austin roses up there survived. I’m not so sure about the two at the bottom of the garden.
