The news is full of parolees who have committed crimes, who never should have been let out of jail. Here’s a story from the other side of the coin. (As I write there are three installments, be sure to read them all). Did you know that someone out on parole can be slapped back in jail, in 23 hour lockdown, for as long as 90 days, on hearsay evidence?
Well, it seems that there is a movement afoot to put a question on the Ottawa municipal election ballot:
Do you support the City of Ottawa spending five million dollars a year to end homelessness by 2014?
Know how much it’ll cost to put that question on the ballot? Seventy thousand dollars! Here’s a thought – why not take that seventy thousand, plus that five million a year, and do the following:
1. Expand inpatient psychiatric facilities
2. Expand addiction treatment facilities.
3. Build some affordable housing.
Nah, that’s too logical for the City of Ottawa.
