I Actually Finished Something!

These are actually an old project that I had forgotten I took photos of:

This was for a baby whose mum’s favourite colour is green, and who was born around Christmastime:

The pattern is a very old one, from this book:

And this is a shawl that I finished yesterday:

My Ravelry project page is here.  The shawl pattern is called “Merope”, and it is from the ebook 7 Small Shawls to Knit by Rosemary Hill (Designs by Romi).  I’m looking forward to making the other shawls in the series.

Rumours and More Rumours

Well, it seems that there are rumours circulating around the Diocese of Ottawa about the latest rounds of  lawsuits between the Anglican Church of Canada and ANiC parishes.  Specifically, there’s a rumour circulating that the latest lawsuits involving St. Alban’s Ottawa and St. George’s Ottawa were started by ANiC.  This is absolutely untrue.  The Diocese of Ottawa sued St. Alban’s, not the other way around.

I don’t know where the rumour started, but it’s very sad that such a fabrication is circulating already.    I’d appreciate prayers for my parish as we discern how we should respond to being sued.

Reflection on Reiki

From Lent and Beyond.  Read it all here.

Why seek the Reiki life energy when you can call on the Name that is above all names, at which every knee must bow, in heaven, on earth, and under the earth? Does this not undermine confidence in the supremacy of Christ?

There is a subtle but critical distinction between healing prayer and Reiki. God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness,” and the Serpent said, “ . . . ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 1:26, 3:5) God’s way is by a relationship with Him, which shapes us from the inside out. The Serpent’s way is by an outward religious act trying to shape mankind from the outside in.

When we plead for divine healing, whether it involve the laying on of hands, the anointing with oil, or simple prayer, it is in the context of relationship with the Triune God. The prayers are offered in deep humility because the healing is not at human disposal, even for those Christians who have a charism for healing. In contrast, Reiki is a technique imparted by a Reiki master that works from the outside in.
