What does home mean to you?
“Home is the place where, when you have to go there,
They have to take you in.”
“I should have called it
Something you somehow haven’t to deserve.”
–Robert Frost, Death of a Hired Man
We all need a place we don’t have to deserve. What does it do to a soul not to have that place? Move along, not welcome here. No safe place. Put yourself there for a moment. Next time you see someone who has no safe place – smile. Say hello. Shake a hand. It might be the only kindness he sees all day.
I just received the September prayer calendar from the ministry I volunteer for. One of the entries reads:
Please pray for A____ and B_____, who have recently had their dog taken away by the humane society because they live on the streets.
What kind of a city is Ottawa? It’s a place where it is perfectly acceptable for people to live on the streets, but not for a dog.
Grab a flashlight and your younger brother. Pretend to be Indiana Jones and look for golden treasure. Just about anything can be golden treasure, you know!
